Evidence shows that weight management interventions improve physical health, yet it is unclear how interventions affect mental health. Conversely, it is unclear how mental health influences weight loss and weight maintenance. Greater understanding of the relationship between obesity and mental health in a weight management context provides insight and knowledge to improve the development and effectiveness of future interventions that support both mental and physical health concurrently, optimising care and minimising the risk of harm.
My thesis aims to investigate the bi-directional relationship between obesity and mental health in a weight management context using both qualitative and quantitative methods.
