Bridging research and practice to tackle regional public health challenges

What we do

Improving public health in the East of England requires research that is grounded in local needs, co-created with communities, and connected to those delivering services. At Cambridge Public Health, we work with partners across the region – including local authorities, NHS organisations, Integrated Care Systems and public health teams – to help ensure that academic expertise contributes to real-world impact.

We convene and support collaborative work that links research with practice, helping to co-develop proposals, translate evidence into action, and explore systems-level solutions. This includes work through Healthy Futures East, a regional partnership hosted by Cambridge Public Health to strengthen the integration of research and public health delivery.

Healthy Futures East: A new collaboration for population health in the East of England

Healthy Futures East (HFE) is a new regional collaboration bringing together universities, NHS bodies, local authorities and community organisations to improve population health, with Cambridge Public Health as a core partner.

HFE focuses on major regional issues such as health inequalities, ageing and pressures on health and care services. It aims to connect research and practice, drawing on academic, experiential and community knowledge to support locally relevant change. The programme uses a systems-thinking approach and includes Task Forces that bring academics and practitioners together to address specific health challenges.

A Fellowship Programme will launch in 2026 to support short, systems-focused projects led by health and care professionals.
