John Clarkson, Professor of Engineering Design at Cambridge University, has been honoured with a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to Engineering and Design.
Expressing his gratitude, Professor Clarkson said, “I am delighted to receive this honour and thank all those extraordinary people I have had the pleasure to work with over the years who have supported me in so many interesting and transformative projects.”
Professor Clarkson is internationally renowned for his research in health and care improvement, inclusive design and systems design. His expertise and deep understanding of systems enable him to address challenges in the healthcare space.
Since its inception in 2020, Professor Clarkson has been a co-director of Cambridge Public Health, bringing a Systems Engineering perspective to health and care. He co-leads the technology and systems theme, working with engineers and public health researchers to design more effective and resilient health and care systems and to better inform treatment strategies.
In addition to his CBE, Professor Clarkson was awarded the prestigious President’s Medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering in September 2023. This medal is awarded to a Fellow of the Academy for their outstanding contribution to the Academy’s aims and work through their initiative in promoting excellence in engineering.
