Equitable, trustworthy and safe research in healthcare technology, data and artificial intelligence: an international dialogue
Insights from public perspectives on data, technology, and Artificial Intelligence from the UK and Uganda.
This report presents insights gathered from two public engagement workshops conducted in January and June 2024—one in the UK and one in Uganda. Organised by the Internaional Health Systems Group at the University of Cambridge, with support from Cambridge Public Health and others, these workshops explored the public's views on the use of healthcare data, technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve healthcare systems.
Participants identified five priority areas for researchers to consider:
- Building trust in healthcare data and technology.
- Ensuring governance and accountability in AI and data systems.
- Supporting reliable and human-centred healthcare innovations.
- Improving access to equitable healthcare technologies.
- Promoting fairness and inclusivity across diverse populations.
The report reflects a shared desire across different contexts to ensure healthcare technologies are safe, equitable, and transparent while addressing public concerns and priorities.
