Professor Gordon Harold, co-director of Cambridge Public Health

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Child Development and Mental Health expert Professor Gordon Harold as a co-director of Cambridge Public Health. He will work alongside Professor Carol Brayne and Professor John Clarkson to support the leadership of the Centre across the Schools of the University.

“It is a genuine honour to have been invited to take on this role” says Professor Gordon Harold. “I look forward to working closely with everyone at Cambridge Public Health and other key stakeholders in advancing the future interests, impacts and interdisciplinary opportunities for CPH across the University, nationally and internationally.”

His appointment means that three of the six Schools of the University are now represented in CPH’s leadership, demonstrating the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of the Centre.

Gordon is the inaugural Professor of the Psychology of Education and Mental Health based at the Faculty of Education. His primary research interests focus on examining the role of family relationship dynamics underlying differences in child and adolescent mental health and life chances outcomes, understanding the interplay between genetic and family relationship factors and young people's mental health and development, and promoting the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practice and policy guidelines aimed at enhancing mental health outcomes for young people.

Gordon is a member of UKRI-ESRC’s Data and Infrastructure, Skills and Methods Expert Advisory Group, a member of the Department for Work and Pensions Methods Advisory Group and a member of the Chairs of Scientific Advisory Councils Group in the UK, he is also an advisor to multiple other UK and international government departments and scientific committees.

Gordon will continue to lead the Public Mental Health research pillar for CPH.
