Cambridge Public Health

HFE symposium

Insights from the PHREsH symposium in March 2025 highlight priorities for action across the region’s health systems.

Cambridge Public Health is pleased to share a newly published report from a regional health symposium hosted by East of England Population Health Research Hub (PHResH) in March 2025.

The event brought together public health leaders, academics, local authority practitioners, NHS and Integrated Care Board representatives, and funders to explore how systems leadership, stronger partnerships, and better use of evidence can support a healthier future for everyone in the East of England.

With support from The Health Foundation and the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities, the symposium created space to reflect on the region’s unique challenges –from an ageing and diverse population to persistent health inequalities – and to identify practical, collaborative pathways forward.

The report highlights five key themes:

  • Connecting the Dots: Moving from fragmented efforts to coordinated, whole-system approaches.
  • Rethinking Evaluation: Embedding learning and reflection into everyday public health practice.
  • Making Research Matter: Aligning evidence with local priorities and real-time decisions.
  • Sustainable Infrastructure: Coordinating funding and scaling successful innovations.
  • Systems Leadership: Building leadership capacity that cuts across boundaries.

"This symposium reminded us that while the challenges are complex, the solutions are within reach—and by turning insight into action and working together across boundaries, we can make lasting change where it matters most: in people’s lives."
