On 22nd May, Cambridge Public Health hosted a networking lunch and flash talks event for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) in public health.
The highlight of the event was a series of 10 engaging talks covering a wide array of research topics, ranging from examining the effects of health system strain on patient care, modelling the impact and cost-effectiveness of universal varicella vaccination in England, and examining the impact of attacks against healthcare in armed conflict.
Each speaker rose to the challenge of delivering their presentations in only three minutes, sparking thought-provoking questions and discussions that continued into the networking lunch.
Hao Tang’s presentation on harnessing the power of social media to promote healthy eating was voted as the audience’s favourite presentation, with her prize awarded by Sebastian Walsh, a member of the ECR advisory committee.
Beyond showcasing new and exciting research, the talks highlighted the diversity of disciplines covering public health at Cambridge, with participants from fields including mathematical modelling, history, epidemiology, and engineering – reflecting the multidisciplinary approach essential for tackling today’s public health challenges.
Following the success of the event, Cambridge Public Health is keen to continue providing similar opportunities for ECRs. Plans are already underway for future flash talk sessions and other events. Don’t miss out on your chance to participate by joining the ECR email list here.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this event a success!
