Join us for an insightful exploration into the intricate relationship between politics and global health. Delve into the dynamic interplay of policies, ideologies, and governance structures shaping the well-being of populations worldwide. From the impact of international diplomacy to domestic healthcare agendas, this event will uncover the profound influences of political decisions on the health of our planet. 

We are excited to invite Matt Oliver, Chair of Campaigns in Global Health, and Sridhar Venkatapuram, Senior Lecturer in Global Health and Philosophy at KCL, to introduce this topic and host a fireside discussion event.

Refreshments will be provided, and there will be an opportunity to meet and discuss with other attendees after the main discussion has finished.

Speakers

Matt Oliver is the Chair of Campaigns in Global Health, a Cambridge-based charity that focuses on the political dynamics that underpin global health policy-decisions. Among a variety of roles, he led the Global TB Caucus from concept into being the world's largest independent parliamentary network, helping unlock billions in health spending and driving policy change in dozens of countries around the world. He is also currently a Senior Research Associate at the Intellectual Forum at Jesus College.

Dr Sridhar Venkatapuram is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Global Health and Philosophy. He is based at the King’s Global Health Institute where he is Deputy Director, and Director of Global Health Education and Training. Sridhar conducts impact driven interdisciplinary research that aims to improve understanding and realization of health equity and justice. He is known for helping establish the area of ‘health justice’ philosophy, for engaging with and advising public/global health practitioners, and for amplifying ethical reasoning in public/global health education, research, and practice. He has been at the forefront of public/global health ethics for over 25 years starting in the early 1990s as the first researcher at Human Rights Watch to focus directly on health-related human rights violations (HIV/AIDS in India).

This event is organised by Wolfson's Global Health Research Hub.

Access

This event will take place in the Roger Needham Room on the second floor of the Chancellor's Centre. It has step-free access with a lift and there is an accessible toilet located each floor of the building.
