Cambridge Science and Policy Exchange – Healthcare Inequalities Panel

Welcome to the Cambridge Science and Policy Exchange (CUSPE) Healthcare Inequalities Panel! Join us for an engaging discussion on the heath care disparities seen. both within the UK and globally. Our panel of experts will delve into the root causes of these inequalities and explore ways to address them. The event will be held at the University Museum Of Zoology, with an opportunity to explore the exhibits and enjoy some refreshments after the 6:15-7:15 panel discussion. Professor Mike Kelly is a Senior Visiting Fellow in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the Institute of Public Health at the University of Cambridge and a member of St John’s College, Cambridge. Between 2005 and 2014 he was the Director of the Centre for Public Health at the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) where he led the teams producing public health guidelines. While at NICE he appeared regularly on the Today Programme and BBC, ITV and Sky Television. He has advised the House of Commons Health Select Committee and been a witness before parliamentary committees on a number of occasions. He has chaired committees for MRC/ESRC, the Foods Standards Agency.

Dr Alison Thomson is a design-led researcher based in the Centre for Preventive Neurology at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Patient Public Involvement (PPI) and Public Engagement in Science (PES), and co-leads the Institutes Public Advisory Panel. Her work aims to articulate how design-led methods can study the notion of ‘patient experience’ within both healthcare and biomedical research settings, and aims to understand how we can support and engage different groups of people with long-term conditions to take part in the design of this work.
